The Stone Spiral, and other things

It has been about a year since I finished writing “The Stone Spiral.”

Querying agents for a new book these days is extremely difficult. As I keep searching, I feel optimistic. But it is very tough. As the business side of things has been insanely slow, I’ve focused on improving the quality of everything else within my control. I’ve had incredible editorial help from the amazing Eleanor Boyall, who has sharpened up the finished text to a very high standard. I’ve worked with beta readers to get early impressions on the book. I’ve outlined the sequel.

But we wait.

I’m not very good at waiting. So I’ve been very, very busy with other things. The most noteworthy is undoubtedly the release of Maia, the first episode of the “Star Trek Fleet Command Animated Shorts.” I’ve worked on the wonderful videogame, “Star Trek Fleet Command,” for a decade now at DIGIT, A Scopely Studio, and creating this short with the help of lots of other incredibly talented, creative people has been a real highlight. I had the pleasure of working with the wonderful LeVar Burton, who voices his iconic Star Trek character, Geordi La Forge, in the episode.

I’ve also been busy writing other projects of my own, including a movie screenplay called “Forward By Starlight” - which is almost finished. Writing for screen is fun. For any of my prose writing friends out there, give this type of writing a try. It can be quite satisfying to get a full story down on paper so quickly. I wrote this one just for fun, so I may share it on this website at some point if there is any demand to read it.

More novels are in the works. More short stories are coming. There’s no stopping me. Trying to get good representation for “The Stone Spiral” is certainly slowing me down, but it all ends up as fuel for what comes next. See you then.
